Course overview
The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals who need to act as a fully qualified first aider in the workplace.
This course meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for organisations where a higher level of first aid provision is required following a risk assessment.
Delivered over three days, the training provides a more in-depth understanding of first aid compared to emergency first aid courses. You will learn how to assess incidents, manage a wide range of injuries and illnesses, and provide effective care until professional medical help arrives.
Delivered by experienced practitioners, the course focuses on practical application and real-world scenarios, ensuring you leave not only qualified, but confident in your ability to respond when it matters.
On successful completion, you will be certified as a workplace first aider, with the qualification valid for three years.
Choosing the right first aid course
If you're unsure which course is right for you, the key difference is the level of responsibility required in your role.
First Aid at Work (FAW) is a 3-day course that provides a more comprehensive level of training and is required for higher-risk workplaces or those responsible for full first aid provision.
If your role involves greater responsibility, higher risk, or you are the designated first aider for your workplace, this full First Aid at Work qualification is recommended. Read on for more details.
Alternatively, Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a 1-day course designed for lower-risk environments or individuals who need a basic level of first aid training.
How lessons work
Training is delivered over three days through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical exercises. The course is hands-on and scenario-based, allowing you to practise essential life-saving techniques in realistic situations.
You will be guided step-by-step through both the theory and practical elements, with continuous support from experienced instructors. Assessment is carried out through practical demonstration and a multiple-choice test.
The focus throughout is on building confidence and ensuring you can apply your skills effectively in real-world environments.
